Orthodontics for adults
It’s never too late for beautiful teeth!
We take care of the functional and aesthetic “straightening” of your teeth and jaws. Of course, we also include general dental health and myofunctions in the overall treatment concept (gladly in cooperation with your dentist) in order to help you achieve natural, beautiful and straight teeth. During consultations with adults, I am often asked: “Does this still work at my age?”
Contrary to many rumors, orthodontic treatment is not only possible for children and teenagers, but of course also for adults. My oldest patient was over 70 years old and fulfilled her long-cherished wish for a comfortable aesthetic improvement. The biochemical processes involved are identical; the main difference to children and teenagers is that we no longer have controllable growth.
For well over 10 years, adult patients of almost all ages have consulted us to have their teeth straightened functionally and aesthetically. In a non-binding initial consultation, I will be happy to inform you about all the means and possibilities of treatment. We cover the entire orthodontic spectrum. Whether conventional, including surgical changes, or in many cases aesthetic, comfortable and almost invisible. In this context, we have been awarded the highest distinction, Diamond Status, by the Invisalign company for years.
You are not satisfied with your smile?
We can correct numerous malocclusions with Invisalign.
What if you no longer had to ask yourself “what if…”? From small corrections to extensive treatments, almost anything is possible.
Frequently asked questions about orthodontics for adults
Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
No, there is generally no age limit for tooth correction. Even in adulthood, teeth can be moved gently and effectively as long as the teeth and periodontium are healthy. Many of our patients only decide to undergo treatment later in life because they have the time, the budget or the right desire for a beautiful smile. Thorough diagnostics and an individually tailored treatment plan are important.
What options are there for inconspicuous tooth correction for adults?
Particularly discreet treatment methods are available for adults, for example transparent aligners such as Invisalign, tooth-colored brackets or internal (lingual) braces. The most suitable solution depends on the type of malocclusion, your aesthetic expectations and your everyday life, and in our practice we will discuss which method best meets your professional and private requirements.
How long does orthodontic treatment take for adults?
The duration of treatment depends on the initial situation, the desired result and the chosen method. Minor corrections can sometimes be completed within just a few months, while more extensive treatments often take 1.5 to 2.5 years. During the planning phase, you will receive a realistic estimate of how long your individual treatment is likely to take. Regular check-ups help to ensure that the treatment is efficient.
I already had braces as a child - is a second treatment worthwhile?
Yes, this can be useful. Teeth can shift again in the course of life, for example due to a lack of retention, tooth loss or the eruption of wisdom teeth. Many adults therefore opt for a second tooth correction in order to achieve a harmonious, stable result once again. Modern, inconspicuous systems such as Invisalign or tooth-colored brackets usually make this “second round” much more comfortable than before.
Does tooth correction hurt more in adults than in children?
The biological mechanisms of tooth movement are similar in adults and children. Especially at the beginning or after adjustments, a slight feeling of pressure or tension may occur, which usually subsides significantly after a few days. Severe pain is rare and tends to be a sign that something needs to be checked. We plan the treatment so that it is as gentle and well tolerated as possible.
Will inconspicuous braces affect my everyday working life?
Modern orthodontic systems have been specially developed for the requirements of adults. Transparent aligners or tooth-colored brackets are usually hardly noticeable in everyday working life and allow you to continue to appear confident – even at customer appointments, presentations or in public professions. Minor adjustments to speech or eating habits are possible at the beginning, but usually quickly become routine.
Can orthodontic treatment be useful before crowns, bridges or implants?
Yes, it often makes sense to move teeth into a more favorable position before a prosthetic restoration. Pre-prosthetic tooth correction often enables your dentist or implantologist to place crowns, bridges or implants better and make them more stable in the long term. In our practice, we work closely with your dentist to develop an optimal overall treatment concept.
Does health insurance cover the costs of treatment for adults?
For adults, statutory health insurance companies generally only cover orthodontic services for very severe jaw anomalies, which often require combined oral surgery. In many other cases, this is a private service that you have to pay for yourself or, depending on the tariff, is partially covered by private health insurance or supplementary insurance. We create a transparent cost plan for you and support you in clarifying possible reimbursements with your insurance company.
Are there any costs for the first consultation?
Regardless of whether you have statutory or private insurance, the first consultation is covered by your health insurance. This means that every patient – whether young or old – can receive sound orthodontic advice without having to take any financial risk. Only if you would like the diagnostic documentation to be started immediately after the in-depth examination will costs be incurred, which may or may not be covered by your health insurance, depending on your insurance policy. In this case, we work together with ZA-AG, which provides you with transparent and flexible billing. This means you always have an overview of possible costs and financing options.
